Summer trends 2013

Hi! Thought it's about time for a trend post for spring/summer 2013! I'm a bit late, I know but I still wanted to make one for you :) So here are the main trends for next summer (when it finally arrives):

Aattelin et on jo aika tehdä trendipostaus sesongille kevät/kesä 2012! Tiiän, oon jo vähän myöhässä mut halusin silti tehdä tän teille :) Tässä siis päätrendit ensi kesälle (kun se sieltä vihdoin tulee):

First are the candy colours! These sugary pastels follow last year's lead, although when you think about it when are pastels not "in" during summer? This look is full of lace, little collars, and flowery prints for the sweet and feminine style! If you buy one thing for this trend, buy a sugar pop dress or cute lace shoes. I love pastels and will continue wearing them also this summer :)

Next up is probably the biggest and freshest trend: monochrome. The shops are already full of black and white striped shirts which are also bloggers' favourites. The 60's are a big influence with little mini dresses, kitten heels, and eyeliner in a true mod style. Buy a pair of checkered heels or a black and white mini skirt to try this trend, I need a little warming up for this one but might get some monochrome for my wardrobe too :)

From top left: outfit Asos, catwalk Louis Vuitton, heels Asos, dress Boohoo, heels H&M, outfit and bag Asos.
The metallic trend has been going on for a while but really hit on for the summer. Modern fabrics, shimmering pieces, and leather are the basics, a metallic shirt or clutch bag are must haves. I first didn't really like the futuristic edge of the trend but now the full, metallic skirts are looking really good...

From top left: catwalk Burberry Prorsum, shoes H&M, outfit Boohoo, iPad case Mango, outfit, shoes and last outfit Asos.
This is the other fresh trend for this summer: the modern geisha. As this might seem a bit too much at first to go full on, the details are a good place to start. Flatforms, pleats, and oriental patterns bring a little futurism, and if you want only a little geisha for your look, try a simple skirt with a fun twist brought by modern tailoring. I admit that the Prada geisha girl is not one of my fashion icons for the season, but I wouldn't mind a pleated dress for an oriental vibe!

From top left: catwalk Prada, shoes H&M, outfit Zara, second and third outfit Boohoo, clutch and shoes Asos.

Next up: minimal style mixed with neon colours. This one is for the sporty type with simple silhouettes, transparent details and bright pops of colour. If you don't want to walk around in your gym gear, a streamlined dress or heels with a touch of neon are for you. Only want one piece: try a transparent bag or cute trainers. The sporty look is alien territory for me but I could try some things from the clothes below...

Top left: outfit Boohoo, second one and bag Asos, heels H&M, catwalk Stella McCartney, heels Asos, dress Boohoo.
The Riviera style trend is also one for every summer and especially holidays abroad. The 50's inspired look is made with bright colours, stripes and detailed patterns (all at the same time of course). If Dolce & Gabbana is too much, wear accessories or only one Riviera piece of clothing at a time to get that beach feeling. The perfect summer dress looks like this trend and is on my shopping list for those long summer days!

Top left: outfit Boohoo, shoes Asos, catwalk Dolce & Gabbana, bag Mango, shoes and last two outfits Asos.
The last one is one of my favourites: the cowgirl, but not in a too literal way. Leather, denim and lots of fringe are key pieces for a tougher vibe. The point is to look a little rough around the edges, perfect for letting your hair down and enjoying the warm weather. A fringed leather bag or a shirt you can tie up in the front bring just the right amount of cowgirl, the attitude is up to you. I want to channel the Saint Laurent girl to get this look just right.

Hope you find as much inspiration for your summer wardrobe from these high street pieces as I did :) All catwalk pictures via Google.

Fashion for A/W 2012 - part 2

Finally: part two of the A/W 2012 trend post! The fourth trend on my list is the gorgeous geek. This art house aesthete doesn't care if people think her outfits are crazy. To her, clothes are another art form and she isn't one for looking classic sexy, she wants something new ad unique. This trend is about head-to-toe retro prints with streamlined silhouettes, clashing combos and above all, the trouser suit. A trouser suit with a 70s graphic print is the perfect way to nail this trend. Add dip-dye hair and brogue shoes, glasses optional. I'd try this trend with maybe a printed bag rather than going crazy with a Prada trouser suit, see also Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton for more.

Next up: the girl samurai. This girl is a traveler by heart and loves all things Asian, specifically China, Korea, and Japan. She is fearless with colour and shape and can be seen wearing sharp, short, shiny dresses, oriental prints, and silk wrap tops. Stay true to the oriental style (this Halloween, be a geisha!), and you'll get a sleek, glamorous look like at Marni, Prada, and Dries van Noten. I would love a dress or shirt with a gorgeous oriental print in my closet!

My personal favourite is the ladylike trend, which is very feminine and super-chic with skirt suits, hostess dresses, lace, and pastel colours. The peplum works great with this trend (something I'll definitely be wearing more) as do voluminous wrap coats, long leather gloves and brooches. The perfect trend for when you want to feel elegant and gorgeous. Jil Sander, Valentino, Dior, and Chloé all showed there versions of the bourgeois lady.

The last trend is the country girl. She loves cosy knits and tweeds, earthy colours, and chunky layers with a skinny belt. Flat caps, the puffa, and ankle boots look great with milkmaid plaits and a rosy blush. See Burberry Prorsum, Michale Kors, and Mulberry for inspiration to a rural look.

My pick of this trend: a cosy knit sweater with a gorgeous bag.

So here they are, the main trends for this season! Hope you're inspired and find the perfect touches for your wardrobe :) All pictures that are not via Google from weheartit.com.

Fashion for A/W 2012 - part 1

Hi! So now it's time for the first part of the amazing, huge A/W 2012 trend posts! There were a lot of different trends to choose from, continuing with the thought that everything is in fashion... I chose seven of the biggest styles to show you and I'll tell my favourite things about them of course :) And since all of this in one post would be simply too big to handle, I'll post it in two parts.

The first trend on my list is femme fatale. The difference with last year's domina trend is that this year, you don't want to look kinky but powerful, alpha female if you will. This power woman wears strong silhouettes, like peplums, strong-shouldered jackets, and cinch-waist coats with a pencil skirt and killer heels. Over-knee boots go great with this trend too, as do chiffon, silk, velvet, and the most important one: leather. Leather is a big part of this autumn and can be transformed to work in all trends. If you buy something, make it leather! Add a little dark red lipstick and you're ready to conquer the streets, see Gucci, Lanvin, and Givenchy for inspiration ;)

If a metal peplum isn't femme fatale, I don't know what is...

Lara Stone and dark lips.

Loving the sheer chiffon, I'd like some more of that in my closet. Via Google, Gucci A/W 2012.

I'm still looking for the perfect leather skirt/dress... It doesn't need to be completely out of leather, some details would do just fine also. Via Google, Givenchy A/W 2012.

I'm liking the peplum more and more, not sure if I could wear this extreme though :D Via Google, Lanvin A/W 2012.

Next up is the army trend mixed with the equestrian (ratsastaja) trend. These two are very similar, and the clothes that belong to one of these trends work well with the other one too. You want to look buttoned up and sleek with closely tailored pieces and defined waists. Army-green trenches, jodhpurs (ratsastushousut), double-breasted cropped coats, and riding boots go with khaki, knits, high-collared shirts and more leather. I personally would leave the camo clothes to the minimum. Inspiration found from Gucci, Givenchy, Moschino and Burberry Prorsum.

I love parka's, so a khaki green parka would be the perfect nod to the army trend for me.

Over-knee boots work with equestrian too! Via Google, Givenchy A/W 2012

If you want a more playful equestrian look, this your inspiration. Via Google, Moschino A/W 2012.

That double-breasted coat is a great way to do army, something I would love to wear. Via Google, Burberry Prorsum A/W 2012

The third trend on my list is the embellished with a capital E, really it should be EMBELLISHED. This autumn you can have anything and everything imaginable on your clothes, from jewels and crystals to prints and embroidery. And it doesn't mean a jewel here and a bit of embroidery there, it means an explosion of jewels everywhere on top of the embroidery :D More is definitely more, and a bejewelled dress or coat is the perfect way to this trend. See how it's done at Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana.

Embellished collars, pure love!

Via Google, Balmain A/W 2012. Loved this collection.

Via Google, Louis Vuitton A/W 2012.

If you want to add some baroque to your style, Dolce & Gabbana A/W 2012 is for you. Via Google.

Don't forget to embellish your eyebrows ;) Via Google, Chanel A/W 2012.

So that's all for now, I'll show the next four trends later. It will give you time to mull over these trends and pick the best things for your closet :) All pictures not via Google from weheartit.com.
